Frequently Asked Questions

How are Registered Dietitians different from Nutritionists?

Registered dietitians hold a degree from an accredited university program and complete an intensive year-long practicum in clinical settings like hospitals. Dietitians are required to complete yearly professional development and continuing education to remain experts in their respective fields.

Registered Dietitian (RD) is a protected title in Canada. Dietitians, like other allied health professionals, are regulated by a provincial regulatory body to provide ethical practice and protect the public. Nutritionist is not protected meaning there is no standard for education, experience, ethics, protection to the public or continuing education.

Can I access your services if I am not a resident of British Columbia?

Unfortunately, our dietitians are only registered to practice in the province of British Columbia at this time.

Where are you located?

Our team provides virtual nutrition care across the province of British Columbia. We have dietitians situated on Vancouver Island, Greater Vancouver and the Okanagan who are familiar with local resources to inform your care. For clients in BC outside these regions, we may engage with local services to best support you with your consent.

We now have in-person nutrition appointments in our shared clinic space located in Victoria BC at 1620 Garnet Road; unit 100. For our other information (including our phone number, fax, and address), please visit our contact page.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand life happens; however, we have a policy to protect our practitioners and be respectful of their time.

No show appointments or appointments cancelled within 24 hours may be charged a fee up to the full value of the session. We encourage clients to reach out immediately if they are going to be late or miss the appointment.

Are your services covered by insurance?

Most extended health benefits cover dietitian services. Please contact your provider to see if dietitian services are covered and if they accept direct billing.

If you do not have extended health benefits or the service is not fully covered by your plan, the remainder is charged to the credit card on file. Dietitian services are a medical expense and can be claimed as a non-refundable tax credit.

Can you direct bill?

The following organizations may offer direct billing for dietitian services:

GreenShield, Chamber of Commerce, CINUP, ClaimSecure, Desjardins, First Canadian, Canada Life, Industrial Alliance, Johnson Group, Johnson Inc, Maximum Benefit.

What kind of payments do you accept?

Payment for your appointment is due at time of session. We require a credit card on your file to hold your session. For payments, we accept direct billing, credit card and e-transfer. Your practitioner will discuss payment with you in session. If payment for your session is not received by the end of the day, we bill the credit card on file.
